Counselling for Christian Women Carrying Heavy Stories
When life feels overwhelming, confusing, painful, or uncertain, you don't have to carry it alone.
If you’ve been feeling unsettled, exhausted, confused, or quietly carrying more than most people realise — counselling can offer steady ground.
First Steps Session — 30 minutes | $50
A gentle place to begin if you're unsure where to start.
For many Christian women, pain can feel especially complicated.
You may still value your faith, yet feel disappointed, hurt, or unsure where you belong.
You may be questioning yourself, your relationships, or even your sense of direction.
You are welcome here — with your beliefs, your doubts, your questions, or your weariness. You do not need to have strong faith, perfect answers, or certainty about what comes next.
Many women come to counselling because of a current challenge, while others are carrying the ongoing impact of painful experiences, trauma, or patterns that have been influencing life and relationships for years.
Many women first reach out for counselling because something in life feels difficult, painful, or unsustainable.
Relationship difficulties
Betrayal or broken trust
Burnout and emotional exhaustion
Church hurt or spiritual struggles
Anxiety and overwhelm
Family conflict
Caring responsibilities
Life transitions and difficult decisions
Grief, loss, or disappointment
Feeling stuck, lost, or unsure what comes next
Sometimes the current situation is the problem. Sometimes it is simply the thing that reveals how much you've been carrying for a very long time.
Often, these experiences begin to touch deeper wounds, patterns, and questions that have been quietly shaping the way you see yourself, others, and the world around you.
Questions like:
Why do I keep doubting myself?
Why do I carry so much guilt or shame?
Why do I struggle to trust people?
Why do I feel responsible for everyone else's wellbeing?
Why do I feel guilty when I set boundaries?
Why do I keep ending up in similar situations?
Why does this current situation affect me so deeply?
Counselling provides a safe place to explore these questions with curiosity, compassion, and without judgement.
My work is trauma-informed, strengths-based, and grounded in evidence-based counselling approaches.
Together we may explore:
Current challenges and practical coping strategies
Emotional regulation and nervous system support
Relationship patterns and boundaries
Grief, loss, and disappointment
Attachment and trust
Identity and self-worth
Faith and spiritual questions
Healing from difficult past experiences
Depending on your needs and preferences, I may draw from:
Narrative Therapy
Solution-Focused Therapy
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)
CBT-informed tools
Attachment-informed approaches
Grounding and regulation strategies
Reflective journalling
Therapeutic art and creative expression
While counselling can help with immediate concerns, many women discover something deeper.
As we work together, they often begin to:
✓ Understand themselves with greater compassion
✓ Recognise patterns that no longer serve them
✓ Build healthier boundaries
✓ Strengthen their confidence and self-trust
✓ Process painful experiences safely
✓ Develop greater emotional stability
✓ Reconnect with their values and identity
✓ Move forward with greater freedom and hope
Healing is not about becoming someone different.
It's about becoming more fully yourself.
Many of the women I work with identify as Christians.
Some feel close to God.
Others feel hurt, disappointed, confused, or disconnected because of what they have experienced.
Your faith will always be treated with respect.
If faith is important to you, we can thoughtfully explore how it intersects with your healing journey.
There is no pressure, agenda, or expectation.
You are free to bring your questions, doubts, frustrations, hopes, and beliefs into the counselling space.
Please note: Online counselling is not currently available to clients located in the USA or Canada.
Hi, I'm Amanda Butel.
I'm a qualified counsellor and therapeutic art practitioner with a special interest in supporting women navigating difficult life circumstances, burnout, relationship challenges, church hurt, betrayal, and the ongoing impact of trauma.
As a missionary kid, pastor's kid, ministry leader, chaplain, counsellor, wife, and mother, I understand many of the complexities that can accompany faith, service, relationships, and caring for others.
I have experienced both the beauty and the challenges of faith communities, and I bring that understanding into my work with compassion, humility, and respect.
My approach is warm, practical, compassionate, and trauma-informed.
I believe healing happens when we create space to understand our stories, strengthen our supports, reconnect with what matters most, and take meaningful steps forward.
